William H. Nichols Fellowship

The New York Local Section is pleased to announce a new summer research opportunity for college juniors in the New York area. Named for a founding member and President of the American Chemical Society, the William H. Nichols Fellowship is designed to support the advancement of New York area college juniors who are interested in chemistry, biochemistry and aligned fields. Recognizing that the New York Local Section area houses a broad portfolio of cutting-edge STEM research laboratories, this program strives to provide the authentic research experiences and mentoring needed to prepare the next generation of world-class chemists.

This opportunity is open to all college juniors (rising seniors) who are majoring in chemistry, biochemistry or chemistry related fields and who will be performing research during Summer 2017 at an institution in the New York Local Section geographical area (All boroughs of New York City plus Rockland, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk Counties, New York, and the area east of the Hackensack River in Hudson and Bergen Counties, New Jersey).

The William H. Nichols Fellows are expected to participate in state-of-the-art research projects, submit a 2-page research summary at the end of the Summer, attend the 2018 Nichols Award Banquet with their research advisor as an honored guests, and present their research at the 2018 Undergraduate Research Symposium. The Nichols Fellows receive a $5000 stipend ($4000 at the beginning of the summer, $1000 at the 2018 Nichols Award Banquet).
